A.D.D is the new single release from East London-based band Jingo and is taken from their EP which is due for release in June. With, impressively, Kevin Blackler at the mastering helm it was recorded at Soup Studios. Crashing in with the chilling menace of drums and cymbals, bass and guitar, the song then brings in lead singer Katie Buckett’s vocals, mellow but also direct. Intelligent and honest scathing and probing lyrics continue on the difficult subjects of childhood mental illness, being treated by overkill of medication, which can sometimes lead to psychosis developing in young patients. The chilling subject is explored though the structure of this lyric-strong song .Through the unravelling song narrative – sometimes loud and visceral, sometimes softer and sparse – the spiky backbone pierces at every level and chills through to the core, as vocals rise inflamed with anger and then end surprisingly and coolly, with a sweetly saccharine, calm refrain, ” Say doctor , your love is my suicide “. Jack Buckett , Joseph Reeves and Chris Smith on guitars and drums, make up the rest of this four pieces Indie rock outfit soon to start a tour of Franco and some of the UK, jingo have also opened for Blurs Graham Coxon. Guitatrist Jack’s vocals come through to harmonise beautifully with lead singer Katie’s – a perfect pairing.
The single is catchy, with all structures working well and also has an important mesage and cautionary tale to tell – all factors work. The single leaks the promise of a strong EP and bodes well for exciting times ahead and deserved recognition for this hardworking, hard giging and very talented band.
